Humane Society of Sumter County Volunteer of the Month – June 2025: Siobhan Raven
This June, we are happy to recognize Siobhan Raven as our Volunteer of the Month. Originally from the north of England, Siobhan grew up surrounded by farmland, animals, and hay wagons—but never had a dog of her own. That early love of animals blossomed into a deep passion for rescue work and giving extra love to those who need it most.
Since joining our Humane Society of Sumter County, Siobhan has brought dedication and heart to everything she does. Whether she’s walking our most energetic pups, working playgroups, organizing pack walks, helping at adoption events, or joining fundraising committees such as our successful “Paws for a Cause” Fore Paws Golf Tournament her commitment is constant and inspiring. Siobhan has a special place in her heart for the underdogs—literally. From blind and tripod dogs to long-term residents needing a break, she sees the soul beneath every struggle and helps each one find peace, love, and dignity.
Her journey hasn’t always been easy. Siobhan began her volunteer work nervous around dogs, unsure even about entering kennels. But with patience and persistence, she grew into one of our most trusted and compassionate volunteers, eventually working with the most challenging dogs and leading new initiatives like off-site pack walks.
Siobhan reminds us that volunteering isn’t just about the animals (though that’s a huge part of it)—it’s about community. Through her work, she’s not only enriched the lives of our animals, but also built bonds with fellow volunteers that extend beyond the shelter walls.
Thank you, Siobhan, for your heart, your time, and your unwavering belief in second chances. You make our shelter better—every single day. To be a part of our wonderful volunteer team, whether it’s handling the animals, helping at fundraising events, in our office, fostering a pet or helping educate our youth on responsible pet ownership and kindness, we welcome you!
