Ways You Can Help

Our work would not be possible without the help of our incredible volunteers. Whether you can donate a few hours a week or more, your time and energy will make a difference in the lives of animals in need. Join our Volunteer Team and become part of a community dedicated to helping animals find loving homes.

We have a variety of ways you can contribute your time and talents, and our Volunteer Coordinator will help you find the perfect fit. Here are some of the many ways you can help:

  • Walking & Socializing Dogs
  • Socializing Cats & Kittens
  • Catty Shack & Kitten Wonderland Housekeeping
  • Become a Foster Parent
  • Care for adoptable cats at Petsense or PetSmart
  • Help with Facility Maintenance
  • Support Special Events
  • Assist with Office/Administrative Tasks or Data Entry
  • Fundraising Support
  • Grant Writing, Research
  • Graphic Design, Photography, or Videography

Whatever your skills or availability, there’s a way for you to make a meaningful impact.

Our Volunteer Orientation sessions are held monthly (except for holiday weekends) at our campus. The session lasts about 1.5 hours, and it’s a great way to get familiar with our mission and find out how you can help. Complete our Volunteer Application online, and if you’re under 18, please have your parent’s permission to join.

For more information, you can contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Debbie Heiner, at volunteering@hsspca.org, and she’ll assist you in finding the right volunteer activity.

In addition to volunteering at our campus, we also have opportunities at Petsense and PetSmart locations in Oxford/The Villages. Volunteers at these locations care for our adoptable cats and assist with adoption events. If this interests you, please contact us for more information.

  • PetSmart, Oxford/The Villages: 3667 Wedgewood Lane (behind Fresh Market on CR466)
  • Petsense, The Villages: 1088 Canal St.

Volunteers cover shifts twice daily, and on-site adoption events are held regularly. Join us in helping more cats find their forever homes!

Humane Society of Sumter County is an approved location for those needing to complete Community Service Hours, whether for court orders or high school graduation requirements. Contact us to learn more about fulfilling your service hours by helping animals in need.
