Our Mission

Celebrating
40+ Years of Service

In 2022, we proudly celebrated our 40th Anniversary of dedicated service to the Sumter County community. Since our founding in 1982, we have been a nonprofit charitable organization, operating solely on contributions from individuals, businesses, and foundations.

Our rich history of compassion, advocacy, and care is a testament to the power of community support and our shared commitment to animal welfare.

Our Mission

At Humane Society of Sumter County, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of animals in Sumter County, FL, and to educate and support the people who care for them. We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of both animals and the community, ensuring that every animal gets the care, compassion, and love they deserve.

Securing Homes for Animals

We find loving homes for animals in need, ensuring they have a safe and caring environment.

Caring for Injured, Abused, and Homeless Animals

We provide care for animals that have been injured, abused, unwanted, or orphaned, giving them a second chance at life.

Low or No-Cost Spay/Neuter Services

We offer affordable or free spay/neuter services to reduce overpopulation and prevent the suffering of unwanted animals.

Low or No-Cost Pet Food Distribution

Through our pet food pantry, we help low-income families care for their pets, ensuring no animal goes hungry.

Humane Education

We educate the community, especially the younger generation, about the humane treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership.
