Surrender a Cat
We understand that making the decision to surrender your cat is not easy. Life circumstances can change, and sometimes rehoming your beloved pet becomes necessary.
At Humane Society of Sumter County, our goal is to make the process as smooth and compassionate as possible, ensuring your cat will be placed in a safe, loving environment where they can thrive.
How the Process Works
Fill Out the Surrender Form
We ask for information about your cat’s basic details, history, routine, and medical background to help us understand their needs. The more information you can provide, the better we can prepare for your cat’s care and find the right match for their future home.
Routine and Disposition
We ask about your cat’s daily routine, how they interact with people and other animals, and any preferences they may have. Knowing whether your cat is good with children or has any special likes or dislikes helps us place them in the most suitable home.
Medical History
Please provide information about your cat’s medical background, including any existing conditions, vaccinations, and veterinarian details. We want to ensure that your cat’s health needs are taken care of while they are in our care.
Authorization
Before the surrender can be finalized, you will need to confirm that you are the legal owner of the cat and that all ownership rights will be transferred to Humane Society of Sumter County. Once the surrender process is complete, we take full responsibility for finding your cat a new home.
Before You Surrender
Once your cat is surrendered to Humane Society of Sumter County, they will be given a thorough health check and will be placed in a safe environment where they can wait for their forever family.
We are dedicated to finding them the best possible home and will keep you updated if you’d like to stay connected.
