Cat Adoption Process and Fees

At Humane Society of Sumter County, our goal is to help every cat find a loving forever home. Below is everything you need to know about our cat adoption process and fees, so you can bring home a new furry friend with confidence!

Why do we have adoption fees?

Adoption fees help us cover the costs of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other medical treatments to ensure each cat is healthy and ready for adoption.

These fees allow us to continue caring for our cats while they wait for their forever homes.

Take Your Cat Home

If the cat is already spayed or neutered, they will go home with you the same day.

Otherwise, arrangements will be made for the procedure before you take them home.

Pet Adoption Returns

We do our best to place only healthy and sound animals for adoption, but sometimes pets can become ill due to unknown factors. If your new cat becomes ill, you have the following options:

  • Return the cat to Humane Society of Sumter County, or
  • Seek treatment at your expense through your veterinarian.

If you choose to return the cat, you must do so at Humane Society of Sumter County. No refunds will be provided, as your adoption fee is considered a donation to support the care of the animals in our shelter.

We will always accept back any animal adopted from us, no questions asked.
