The Adoption Process
Meet the Requirements
Adopters must be at least 21 years old.
Be ready to provide your veterinarian’s name and contact information if you have current or past pets.
Browse Our Adoptable Pets
Browse our adoptable cats online or visit us at Humane Society of Sumter County in Lake Panasoffkee. You can also visit our local partner locations, including Sparr and PetSmart.
Complete the Adoption Application
Complete the online Cat Adoption Application. Once submitted, our Adoption Counselors will review your application and follow up with you. This may take a few days.
Set Up a Meet & Greet
Once your application is approved, we’ll schedule a meet & greet with the cat you’re interested in. If you have existing pets, a meet & greet will also be arranged to ensure compatibility.
Finalize the Adoption
When you’re ready to adopt, meet with our Adoption Counselor to review and sign the paperwork. Please bring the following: Driver’s license or State of FL ID with your current address. A pet carrier for your new cat or kitten.
Accepted payment methods: Cash, Check, Visa, AMEX, MasterCard, or Discover.
Take Your New Friend Home!
If the cat is already spayed or neutered, they will go home with you the same day. Otherwise, arrangements will be made for the procedure before you take them home.
