Humane Society of Sumter County Volunteer of the Month – April 2025: Anthony Ambrosio
We are proud to recognize Anthony Ambrosio as our Volunteer of the Month for April 2025! Anthony has been an incredible asset to our shelter, generously dedicating his time, energy and enthusiasm to support our mission of helping local animals in need.
Originally from Long Island, NY, Anthony has always had a deep connection with animals, having grown up with a wide variety of dogs ranging from Pugs to a Cane Corso. Anthony and his wife, Michele, currently have Hobi, a Korean Jindo rescued from the South Korean dog meat market. Hobi is a special part of their lives as his story is one of resilience, and it’s clear that the bond they share is at the heart of Anthony’s passion for animal welfare.
Anthony began volunteering with us as a part-time Florida resident, seeking a way to fill the void of being apart from their dog. His love for animals led him to discover our shelter and he said that based on his experience, “if you are looking for something fulfilling, I highly recommend volunteering at the Humane Society of Sumter County. There are so many different opportunities from dog walking, cat care, and my favorite, working special events.”
One of his favorite aspects of volunteering is being involved in fundraisers, where he played key roles in set-up and break-down as it often takes many helpers to put on our best presentation. We were fortunate to have Anthony be part of some fantastic events such as our inaugural Fore Paws golf tournament, Grovefest at Sawgrass Grove, and monthly Junk in the Trunk fundraisers.
What stands out the most is Anthony’s dedication to our mission and his enthusiasm for the adoption events. He’s shared that “I have met some amazing volunteers and staff. The animals are very lucky to have these folks in their corner!” He expressed how moving it is to see the connection between our shelter animals and the wonderful families who adopt them. His positive attitude, hard work, and unwavering support have not only helped raise awareness for our cause but also strengthened our sense of community among volunteers, staff, and supporters.
We are so grateful for Anthony’s contributions, and we look forward to seeing all the amazing things he will continue to do for our shelter and the animals we serve together.
