Pet Tales: River’s Update

RIVER’S UPDATE:

STILL WAITING, STILL WONDERFUL!

River – our beautiful gray and white terrier mix, seven years young and a perfect 48 pounds – is still here at the Humane Society of Sumter County…and still as lovely as ever. She continues to enjoy her play time, her toys, and all the love she can get from her volunteers. When it comes to toys, River simply prefers the “long – lasting fun” kind – sturdy toys and knot ropes that keep her happily entertained and engaged.

She’s a smart, independent girl who has learned all the foster house rules like a pro. River knows how to sit, paw, down, drop it, and leave it – and she’ll even sit politely and wait for permission before enjoying her meals. She understands when it’s time to wind down, and settles beautifully at night, and picks up routines quickly. She’s not clingy, but she absolutely adores her people…especally when it’s time to rest her head in your lap and soak up some quiet affection.

River would thrive as the only pet in the home, where she can truly shine and soak up all the love for herself. She’s happiest with her humans, greeting everyone she meets with a wag and a kiss, and she enjoys her walks and car rides [she’s definitely more of a backseat cruiser than a golf cart girl!]. She’ll even let you know when it’s potty time – she’s got great manners and a gentle way of communicating.

River is sweet. River is steady. River is definitely READY. She has been with us since October 21st of 2025…and that’s far too long for a girl who belongs on a cozy couch, with her head in someone’s lap, watching TV at the end of the day.

She’s still here. She’s still waiting. She’s still hoping her person finds her soon! Please call 352-793-9117 to schedule an appointment to meet this wonderful girl.

If you’d like to schedule a meet-and-greet with Nora, complete an adoption application to be contacted by an Adoption Counselor.
