When you purchase a Florida Animal Friend license plate, $25 of every plate sold goes directly to fund organizations across the state who offer free or low-cost spay and neuter services. These services are made available to pets of low income families as well as homeless cats and dogs waiting to be adopted. By purchasing the plate or donating to show your support, we become one step closer to ensuring that all animals can have a safe, happy and loving home.
Our partners at Best Friends have created a mobile app where you can earn donations for YOUR Humane Society SPCA by just walking, running or biking.
Just download the free ResQwalk app, create a profile and choose YOUR Humane Society SPCA. Throughout the year, Best Friends will announce a pool of cash and other lifesaving resources you can earn by walking. You can help us earn a portion of this pool by opening the app and clicking the “start walk” button every time you go for a walk. Running and biking count, too. So, lace up your sneakers and save some lives!
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) can both satisfy your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), in part or in whole, and also benefit YOUR Humane Society SPCA, your local no-kill animal shelter. If you are charitably inclined, love animals and don’t need all or part of your annual RMD, why not satisfy your charitable intentions in a way that minimizes your income tax and saves lives at the same time?
You have the ability to direct your IRA Trustee or Custodian to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to a qualified 501(c)3 organization such as YOUR Humane Society SPCA in the amount of all or part of your RMD for that year. The result of this QCD is to remove taxable RMD income from your 1040 to the extent of the Charitable Distribution.
Distributions of this kind, and the accompanying reduction in taxable income, are permitted to the extent of your RMD for any given year or $100,000, whichever is less. If you file a joint return with your spouse, and he/she is also 70½ years old or older, you may charitably distribute up to $200,000 or your total RMD, whichever is less.
Your QCD must be completed and received by the charity by December 31st each year. Only IRA’s qualify for Qualified Charitable Distributions. Donors must be at least 70½ years of age.

Any person interested in pursuing a Qualified Charitable Distribution is urged to consult their attorney and/or tax accountant to determine the effect such a distribution would have on their own personal tax situation.
