WalMart shoppers will again be able to show their love of their pets and help local animals in need in Sumter County at the Villages Super WalMart (off of CR 466) on Saturday, February 11th and at the Bushnell Super Walmart (on SR 48) on Sunday, February 12th. WalMart will be hosting this annual Valentine’s weekend fundraiser and adoption event from 10am-2pm out in front of their two main entrances.

Our HS/SPCA volunteers will distribute our current “Wish List” providing supporters an idea of what supplies are typically needed in the daily care of the shelter’s animals. Shoppers can easily purchase and donate the supplies once they exit the store. Our HS/SPCA will also have adoptable animals for prospective forever families to meet their new love. Volunteer applications will also be available for those wishing to get involved in ways from animal care, education to fundraising opportunities.

Shelter Manager Anne Miller remarked that “Our community has traditionally been very responsive when it comes to our annual ‘Fill Your Heart by Filling the Van’ event in past years timing it with the love that abounds during Valentine’s Day. We completely understand that their pets are their sweethearts!”

Gift cards are the most convenient way to help as they can be applied towards many different shelter needs plus they are easier than carrying heavy bags of food or litter, they don’t take up any storage space and don’t spoil. As our HS/SPCA continues to grow and meet the needs of our community, some staples needed are dry dog/cat food, clumping cat litter, bleach, laundry detergent and kitchen-sized garbage bags.
