Our Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County (HS/SPCA) is honored to announce that we have been awarded a grant of $10,000 from the Petco Foundation to support our “Big Fix” Spay/Neuter voucher program. This Petco Foundation grant will cover the cost of spaying or neutering nearly 200 dogs and cats eligible within Sumter County. It will also serve the Petco Foundation’s mission to raise the quality of life for pets and people who love and need them! Thank you to the Petco Foundation for believing in our vital work!
Our HS/SPCA Board member and grant writer Mary Chiles expressed her enthusiasm of how this grant will certainly be effective in dual roles.
“This free program assists qualifying low income residents in their pet’s care as part of responsible pet ownership in addition to our long-term objective of ultimately reducing the euthanasia rate within Sumter County.”
Our HS/SPCA President Bill Gottschalk added “This grant allows pets to remain in homes as part of the family without having to be surrendered due to a lack of affordability of too many dogs and cats unintentionally reproducing. It complements our other public assistance program ‘Kibbles on Wheels’ pet food program for qualifying applicants.
The success of these programs, whether donations from our community or grants such as from the Petco Foundation, are integral in the quality of pets’ lives within Sumter County. We are extremely grateful to receive support acknowledging the necessity of our community assistance programs.”
About the Petco Foundation
At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $157 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 4.9 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
