As the Humane Society/SPCA’s recently elected Chairman of the Board, I would like to take this opportunity to send a heartfelt “thank you” to our community for its enthusiastic response to our recent supply drives.
This generosity was demonstrated at our events throughout Sumter County not only via donations of pet food and cleaning supplies, but also in the interest expressed in volunteering and pet adoptions. We were touched by the simple kindness of words and encouragement expressed by so many. It is gratifying to our staff, Board, volunteers and myself to know our community recognizes and values the necessary work we provide, improving the quality of life for the animals of Sumter County and saving as many lives of homeless pets as possible.
Between feeding the animals housed at our shelter and the “Kibbles on Wheels” pet food assistance program for economically stressed families, our HS/SPCA uses and distributes 4,000 lbs. of dry pet food on an average monthly basis. Over 12,000 lbs. of dry pet food was received in just the last two weeks.
We deeply appreciate all gifts but for now we are at the limit of storage space for perishables particularly with the warmer, more humid weather fast approaching. We respectfully ask that anyone interested in contributing at this time please consider it in a monetary form or gift card that we can use when supplies dwindle throughout the upcoming summer months.
Over our 34 year history, our non-profit has continually worked towards expanding our shelter programs for Sumter’s animals and their people and this has only been possible because of the compassion and support demonstrated by our community. We invite you to visit our shelter, meet our great team and our animals plus see how you make a difference. I personally look forward to meeting you!
With our sincerest gratitude,
Celine T. Petrie
Chairman of the Board
