We are excited to launch 2016’s Volunteer of the Month with a dynamic lady with seemingly endless enthusiasm and energy! Debbie, a FL native, grew up with dogs and goldfish but her passion extends far beyond that to any animal in need! She and her husband recently adopted a canine bundle of cuteness from our HS/SPCA named Bert. We know how much our adopters love their pets but Bert may have hit the jackpot with a loving home like no other!
Debbie’s inspiration to volunteer for our shelter is simply based on the joy she finds from so many tails wagging. She witnesses the sheer beauty of people giving of themselves with real compassion and selflessness in order to save a life of an innocent animal.
She said it best as “There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer” and we totally agree! Debbie encourages area residents “To be an advocate, a voice for an animal…get involved. Go visit the shelter, see first-hand how they work, how they provide shelter, aid and responsible adoptions to the animals that are entrusted to their care. Go see how they educate the community about respect and kindness to all animals. Donate and/or adopt!”
Her favorite moments volunteering are when she meets others who are as passionate as she is about helping an animal shelter. Debbie also recognizes the fabulous staff that work at our shelter. She mentions that “Their dedication, passion and love for the animals is truly a gift to all who come in contact with them.” Thank you for recognizing one of our keys to success and growth along with our supporters who donate their time and funds to keep us in operation.
Debbie’s motivation is so strong that last year she organized a super dog walk which donated 100% of the proceeds, over $14,000, for our rescued animals.
This year, if you wish to walk your dog at the 2nd Annual Strut Your Mutt Charity Dog Walk, be a sponsor or get a chance to meet this dynamic woman, get your sneakers on and meet us at the Villages Polo Grounds on Saturday, February 13th for a fun day of good will! Registration is at 8am and the walk begins at 9am. For more info visit www.StrutYourMuttTheVillages.org and sign up now!
